Invite Ryan to Speak
After preaching and communicating at church services, house churches, camps, small groups, college classrooms, leadership summits, and ministry schools for over a decade, Ryan would be honored to be considered to speak in your context. Known for integrating biblical and theological depth with prophetic insight and humor, Ryan will prayerfully prepare a timely, biblical, and contextual message for your group.

God wants to ignite and re-ignite our hearts to burn with love for Him! The hope of this message is to create a moment for a community of people to experience Jesus’s tangible and rich love for them, and feel invited to the place of prayer to continually experience and express that love. The primary texts are Romans 8 and John 15.

What does it look like to walk in a daily relationship with the Person of the Holy Spirit? He’s not an impersonal force, He is God and He can be known just like a person can be known — through relationship! This sermon integrates personal stories of friendship with the Holy Spirit with the text of John 16.

Intimacy with God is meant to lead to intercession. When we care about someone, we care about what’s on their heart! This sermon is meant to grip communities with a passion to know what’s on God’s heart and to partner with Him through the practice of contending prayer, rooted in the theology of Romans 8.

How do we ignite a passion for prayer in our lives, and how do we sustain it over the course of a lifetime? In other words, how do we start praying and then never stop? This 12-hour course will integrate insights from the narrative arc of Scripture, the Lord's prayer, Jesus’s prayer life, the desert mothers and fathers, and the medieval mystics, all from the perspective that God can and will meet us dramatically in our day to day lives through prayer practices. Students will feel inspired to enter the place of prayer and will be equipped to sustain an ongoing practice of prayer for many years. Topics include hunger for God, silence and solitude, fasting, intercession, Sabbath, and cultivating a praying community. Please email me to request sample notes & sessions.

How do we know with certainty what God has called us to do? This 12-hour course is designed to help us discern how God is inviting us to participate in His redemptive mission in the world. The word vocāre is the Latin word for “call” and is where we get the English word “vocation.” This represents the primary thesis of this course — that are callings are heard, not willed or chosen. We will lean and in and listen to the call of God on our life through on the many call narratives of Scripture, our personal stories, our unique identities and giftings, and our sense of the Holy Spirit’s ongoing guidance in our life. Topics include a biblical theology of vocation, vocational discernment practices, hearing God in our stories, the role of community in vocational discernment, and how our vocation fits in the Great Commission. It’s no secret that we are in a crisis of biblical literacy in the West. This 12-hour course is designed to lead students into an encounter with God through Scripture that will equip and empower us to think in Scripture-saturated ways. Topics include how the Bible came to be, who wrote it, the translation process, how the Bible has been interpreted by various traditions and streams throughout history, as well as theological themes such as the imago dei, the mission of God, covenant, kingdom, authority, identity, obedience, exodus, exile, temple, and power. We will then apply the story of Scripture to think theologically about contemporary ethical questions such as biblical sexuality, missions, and other topics. For Leadership Teams
-
How do you cultivate a life of interior vibrancy and love for Jesus in the middle of the unique pressures of leadership? This talk addresses the three temptations of leadership, what prayer rhythms work best for leaders, the role of emotional health in leadership, and how our prayer practices help the hardships of leadership to form us into Christlikeness.
-
How do we move from exciting moments in prayer on a Sunday morning or at a conference to a culture where our people are consistently awake and excited about talking to Jesus in prayer? This talk looks at the importance of three dimensions in building cultures of prayer: catalytic moments, sustainable & consistent meetings, and multipliable pathways of formation, and what happens if we only have one or two of the three.

Christian leadership requires a different ethos than what is often celebrated in corporate spaces. Instead of setting goals, planning, and executing at an economically efficient pace, we must slow down, discern, create space to listen to God, and live within our limits. This talk addresses why and how we do this — and what happens to our souls and the people we lead if we don’t. Topics include practical steps to discern God’s will as a leadership team, what the Holy Spirit’s voice sounds like in discernment versus the enemy’s, and how to cultivate a lifestyle of following the Holy Spirit’s leadership both individually and as a team.
