Hi,
I’m Ryan
It’s great to meet you!
I’m a pastor, speaker, and creator of prayer resources passionate about inspiring individuals, churches, and ministry schools to come alive and live in love with Jesus.
A Little Bit of My Story
My journey in prayer came to a crossroads in 2018 when I started experiencing crippling anxiety and panic attacks. With much counsel and prayer, I began to see that my prayer life wasn’t deep enough to sustain all that I was doing — my interior depth couldn’t match my exterior output. Even after quitting everything extra I was doing, I still had so many desires and longings that I didn’t know what to do with. One day while trying to find God in the midst of this restlessness, longing, and inchoate ambition, the Holy Spirit spoke to me and said, “Spend your ambition going after my heart.” In other words, the answer to my restless heart was only to be found in God Himself!
What I Do
My life changed when I began this journey of learning to love God and be loved by Him. This journey even led my wife and I to quit our jobs in California and drive to Atlanta…all while we were 36 weeks pregnant with our first baby! Now, my primary role is to look after House Churches and a 24-7 Prayer ministry at Grace Midtown Church in Atlanta, GA. In addition to this, I love to help individuals start and sustain their prayer lives and to catalyze churches, discipleship schools, and leaders to cultivate cultures of nonstop prayer in their contexts. I also have a Master of Arts in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary and I teach as an online adjunct professor in biblical studies at William Jessup University.
Meet My Family
The joy of my life is my wife Morgan, who is the most amazing mom to our kids and is also an incredibly gifted worship leader. We have a two-and-a-half-year-old named Rosie, who enjoys blowing bubbles and playing hide-and-seek, and a one-year-old named Hoxton who enjoys biting things and wrestling. We also have a four-year-old Goldendoodle named Sherwood who loves to bark at the people who walk by our yard. We spend our time playing together and going on walks in our neighborhood in East Atlanta.

I met Jesus in a Presbyterian church where I learned a deep appreciation for the Bible and for theology. In high school, I had an encounter with the Holy Spirit at a charismatic church where I was later ordained as a pastor. I went to seminary at a school known for its commitment to diversity and intellectual rigor. Now, I pastor at a nondenominational church and teach at an evangelical university. And recently, my favorite authors have been contemplative Catholics! Basically, I subscribe to the Nicene Creed, the Apostles’ Creed, the Lausanne Covenant, and the Langham Partnership Statement of Faith, but I also speak in tongues, try to read diverse authors, and I have a deep appreciation for the whole Christian tradition.

I love playing with my kids, going on long walks, riding public transportation (seriously), reading British crime dramas, and baking sourdough bread (and other things that require a sourdough starter).

It’s a tie between Ephesians and Song of Songs. I love both because of their ability to communicate the whole of the biblical narrative with beauty.

My two main heroes are Teresa of Avila and Rees Howells. While both are products of their time period, both have shaped my prayer life in very deep ways. Teresa has given me a vision of what’s possible in intimate friendship with Jesus, and Rees Howells has given me a vision of what’s possible in partnering with the Holy Spirit for breakthrough in intercession.

I get that inviting a guest to your community can be a big risk! I’m not shy to share references from communities and groups that I have served in the past. I’ve got some endorsements at the bottom of my homepage, or you can email me and I’d be more than happy to get you in contact with references.
